Brown may stay in UK: Star

Former Dragons coach Nathan Brown has been named as a candidate for boss of English Super League club St Helens.

Brown, 38, who has coached rival English club Huddersfield for three years, had been expected to return to Australia when his contract expires with the Giants at the end of the current season.

However Brown is keeping his options open, according to British tabloid the Daily Star.

The speculation comes after admissions from current St Helens coach and fellow Australian Royce Simmons, that his club needs to produce a result this season.

“I’d better hold a bit of silverware up this year or I’ll be on the plane,” said Simmons, whose two-year St Helens deal is up at the end of the season.

“You’ve got to be a winner or you don’t exist too long.”

Brown, who at age 29 became the Dragons youngest non-playing coach in 2003, held the position until Wayne Bennett arrived in 2009.

In his first season at Huddersfield he took the team to the 2009 Challenge Cup final.

Come the end of this season, Brown is due to be succeeded by his Giants number two, Paul Anderson, the Star said.
