Brisbane have accepted a one-game ban for Tevita Pangai Jnr, with the forward to miss Friday’s NRL clash with Melbourne.
The Tonga international was facing a potential two-game ban after being hit with a grade two careless high-tackle charge.
Pangai Jnr caught Gold Coast outside back Phillip Sami in the first half of the Broncos’ 34-12 win over the Titans on Saturday.
The lock was sin-binned for the incident and will also have to sit out the clash with the table-topping Storm.
“I wouldn’t have given it to him but I’m not the judiciary,” Broncos prop Matt Lodge said about the sanction.
“You’ve just got to cop it on the chin … I probably think a sin-bin and a penalty or something, that gives their team an advantage for the stuff up but missing a game doesn’t help us, doesn’t help the team.”
With Pangai Jnr ruled out, the Broncos will be hopeful veteran Matt Gillett can overcome a back niggle.
The Queensland representative will be named to play against the Storm but only completed half an hour of light duties at training on Monday and regularly clutched his back throughout.
“It’ll be tough but we’ve got a great player coming in,” winger Corey Oates said.
“Gillo’s had a few weeks off now, he should be fresh and ready to go and all the niggles are gone.
“I’m really confident Gillo’s going to come back and play a good game.”
The Broncos will also welcome back youngster Tom Flegler after he missed the Titans match due to suspension.
