Broncos’ Thaiday cleared for Titans match

Veteran Brisbane forward Sam Thaiday says he has been cleared of concussion concerns ahead of Sunday’s NRL clash with Gold Coast.

Thaiday copped a head knock in last round’s golden point win over Wests Tigers but has avoided being added to a Broncos injury list that already boasts winger Corey Oates (hip) and prop Tevita Pangai (hamstring).

“I was a bit dizzy. I can’t remember too much what happened but I have been through all the protocols now … and am looking forward to playing again,” said Thaiday after training strongly on Thursday.

“It’s a lot better today. I got nursed through a few the first couple of days at training and will do a bit more contact on Saturday and be right to play on Sunday.”

Thaiday played down the absence of controversial prop Matt Lodge at training on Thursday.

“I don’t want to say why he didn’t train today,” he laughed.

“It’s a sore backdoor, let’s leave it at that. But yeah he should be right (to play).”

A recovering Thaiday doesn’t expect any mercy from a Titans pack boasting ex-Broncos Jarrod Wallace and Jai Arrow.

Especially after the Gold Coast were thrashed 54-8 by St George Illawarra in Toowoomba last round.

“I know they won’t be as bad as they were against the Dragons,” Thaiday said.

“That was a poor performance by them.

“We don’t expect the same side that played in Toowoomba.”

Thaiday was on high alert, predicting Wallace and Arrow to lead the Titans fightback following their disastrous loss.

“They are two blokes we couldn’t keep around here but are now starting to make a name for themselves on the Gold Coast.

“They will want to perform well. Especially J-Wal (Wallace) who will want to play well in front of Kevvie (Queensland coach Kevin Walters) to try and push for that Origin spot.”
