South Sydney coach Michael Maguire says Brisbane remain the NRL benchmark despite slipping from top spot.

The Sydney Roosters jumped into first position with a 12-10 win over the Broncos on Saturday.

But Maguire says they have been the most consistent team across 24 rounds and showed a fighting spirit against the Roosters.

The Rabbitohs meet the Broncos in a top four showdown at Allianz Stadium on Thursday night.
