Broncos set to move Milford to fullback

Brisbane coach Anthony Seibold has all but confirmed five-eighth Anthony Milford will switch to fullback for Saturday’s NRL clash with Newcastle, swapping with Darius Boyd.

Milford was seen training at fullback this week and Seibold hinted the Samoan international would play at the back against the Knights.

When pressed on a switch, Seibold said on Friday: “You guys (media) turn up to training during the week so you should be able to get a decent enough picture of where they are going to play.

“I am not going to comment on positions publicly before the game, I don’t need to.

“But I am happy for you guys to work it out.”

When asked if that was a ‘yes’, Seibold said: “I am not going to comment on it.”

Milford began his NRL career at fullback with Canberra back in 2013, making the switch to five-eighth when he arrived at Red Hill in 2015.

Skipper Boyd is expected to slot into pivot after coming under fire for his defensive display in the No.1 jersey this season.

“We’ve got some strike power, it’s just about unlocking it and being more consistent,” Seibold said.

Brisbane have slumped to 12th spot after two straight losses, including a horror last round 38-10 defeat to Parramatta.

But Seibold was quietly confident of toppling fifth-placed Newcastle after welcoming back his Queensland contingent of Matt Gillett, Corey Oates and David Fifita.

“You don’t have to look at the table to know that it is an important game for us,” he said.

“We’ve had a mixed preparation with guys being away for rep football but we go down to Newcastle with great belief.”

Asked if it was “do or die” for the Broncos’ top eight hopes, Seibold said: “Well, we are not going to die on Sunday morning if we don’t get the result hopefully.

“But it’s an important game.

“We have shown great signs but the nature of our group is that they are still learning and we have got to be better on the road.”
