Broncos retain NRL duo Gillett and Reed

The Brisbane Broncos have re-signed Queensland back-rower Matt Gillett and English international centre Jack Reed on new multi-year NRL deals.

The Broncos will hold a press conference later on Wednesday morning to detail the new contracts for the in-form 24-year-olds, who are former Bribie Island teammates.

Gillett, tipped as a Kangaroos bolter for next week’s trans-Tasman Test, has been promoted to Brisbane’s starting back-row this year in a move which has forced captain Sam Thaiday to start in the front-row.

He had been hunted by rival clubs but is understood the ball-playing forward has re-signed with the Broncos until the end of the 2016 NRL season.

Gillett and Reed, an English Test three-quarter, have combined superbly this season on the left-side of Brisbane’s attack which has seen winger Josh Hoffman cash in to be among the competition’s leading try-scorers.

The retention news comes after rising fullback Corey Norman last month announced he would defect to Parramatta next season.
