Broncos re-sign boom forward Ofahengaue

The Broncos have re-signed boom forward Joe Ofahengaue for another two NRL seasons.

The nephew of ex-Wallaby Willie Ofahengaue, the 19-year-old is believed to have knocked back a more lucrative offer from the Gold Coast Titans to stay loyal to the man who has groomed him at Brisbane – coach Wayne Bennett.

The Junior Kangaroo has played five NRL games this year since making his debut in round two against Cronulla.

“I didn’t really think I was going to get a call up until the Origin round,” he said.

“But it came early and I was blessed and thankful for that.

“I just have to keep playing good footy and doing what the club needs.”

He is the latest youngster secured by Brisbane after the club also locked up Kodi Nikorima to a contract extension two weeks ago.

“I was always keen with my family here, to stay as close to home as I can,” Ofahengaue said.

“I knew I just had to keep playing good footy (and things would work out).”

The Broncos host Manly on Friday night.
