Brisbane’s representative centre James Roberts could be sidelined for a number of weeks after damaging his back early in their NRL round one loss to Melbourne.
Roberts left AAMI Park after just five minutes clutching at his back and in obvious pain had had to be assisted down the tunnel to the change-room.
Broncos coach Anthony Seibold said Roberts would be further assessed on Friday but the initial diagnosis wasn’t good.
“Jimmy’s not real flash to be fair,” Seibold said after the game.
“He hurt a disk in his back in his first carry.
“We will see how Jimmy pulls up tomorrow and get the doctor to assess him.
“He was still in a bit of agony, he’s not laying down or anything.”
Kotoni Staggs replaced Roberts but the loss upset their interchange and their defensive pattern, with the Storm finding plenty of room down the left side through the kicking game of Cameron Munster.
