Bronco Staggs banned for Roosters visit

Brisbane centre Kotoni Staggs will miss next week’s visit by NRL premiers the Sydney Roosters after taking an early plea on a high tackle charge.

Staggs was facing a two-game ban after being hit with a grade two careless high tackle charge for the shot on Parramatta five-eight Dylan Brown in Thursday’s 34-6 loss to the Eels at Suncorp Stadium.

The 21-year-old wasted no time entering his plea and will only sit out the clash with the Roosters next Thursday.

Broncos coach Anthony Seibold has a number of options to replace Staggs, including Herbie Farnworth who was on the bench against the Eels.

The NRL also confirmed Brisbane halfback Brodie Croft was allowed to play despite failing his first pre-game temperature test.

Under biosecurity protocols, players have a maximum two tests to come in under the 37.2C cut off before being allowed to enter the stadium on game day.

Croft was isolated for 15 minutes after failing the first initial exam, before passing with a 36.8C reading.

Brisbane were so concerned about Croft’s status that back-up playmaker Tom Deardan began warming up while his teammate waited for his temperature to be taken a second time.
