Bronco Reed sidelined with broken leg

The Brisbane Broncos will be without centre Jack Reed for the next month of NRL action after scans finally confirmed a lower-leg fracture from Friday night’s 26-12 loss to Cronulla.

X-rays on Saturday originally failed to detect a break but further MRI scans discovered a small fracture to the England international’s fibula.

A disappointed Reed will be sidelined for the next four to six weeks.

Three-quarter Gerard Beale looms as his likely replacement in the centres, although Queensland Origin bench player Matt Gillett could move into the backline.

With youngster Lachlan Maranta showing good form on the wing during his limited opportunities, Beale would be favourite to shift from the flank into the centres.

The earliest Reed is likely to be available is for the July 30 clash with Parramatta at Suncorp Stadium.
