Brisbane Broncos prop Francis Molo and club boss Paul White are set to testify at the inquest into the death of Queensland Cup player James Ackerman.
Mr Molo was playing for the North Devils when he shoulder-charged the 25-year-old Sunshine Coast Falcons forward just four minutes into a 2015 game.
Mr Ackerman suffered a tear to a major artery in his brain and died in hospital two days later.
Forensic pathologist Rohan Samarasinghe told the Brisbane Coroners Court on Tuesday he had only seen Mr Ackerman’s brain injury two other times during his 20-year career, both in car crash victims.
Sunshine Coast players have testified seeing Mr Molo tuck his elbow into his side before striking Mr Ackerman “square in the chin”.
Ryan Hansen said he then saw Mr Molo shove and knee Mr Ackerman as he lay injured on the ground, to celebrate his tackle.
Mr Molo received an eight-game suspension in July 2015 after being found guilty of using the shoulder charge, a manoeuvre banned in early 2013.
He is due to front the inquest on Wednesday morning, followed later by Brisbane Broncos chief executive Paul White.
