Brisbane Broncos vs St. George Illawarra Dragons Preview
Broncos and Dragons Clash in High-Stakes Saturday Night Showdown
Brisbane and St George Illawarra head into Saturday night’s clash both desperate to snap out of their recent slumps. Sitting at 5-5, the Broncos have stumbled, dropping four of their last five games. Despite showing early promise in their Magic Round defeat to Penrith (32-8) and a 22-14 loss to South Sydney, their attacking combinations have struggled, especially in the absence of Reece Walsh. While Payne Haas and Pat Carrigan continue to lead with consistency, the return of Ezra Mam from suspension could be the injection of energy the Broncos need.
The Dragons are in a similar position, also holding a 5-5 record and riding a three-game losing streak. They showed resilience in a narrow 15-14 defeat to the Warriors but are still lacking a commanding presence in the halves. Clint Gutherson has shouldered much of the load, and the pressure is mounting. The return of Jack de Belin to the starting side could provide a boost as they aim to steady the ship.
St George Illawarra has enjoyed the edge in recent matchups, winning seven of the past nine meetings. However, with the Broncos back at home and Mam back in the mix, Brisbane may have just enough firepower to grind out a much-needed win in what promises to be a tightly contested battle.
