Brisbane captain Corey Parker claims there’s no division within the NRL club following reports of an argument between players over the discovery of a ‘rat’ at the Broncos.

A group of Brisbane players, led by halfback Ben Hunt, reportedly planted a false story in the press last week about Matt Gillett being offered to St George Illawarra to flush out a serial leaker in the squad, who they believed was Josh McGuire.

A picture of a rat was then stuck on the front of McGuire’s locker once the story hit the news and a verbal confrontation broke out between himself and Hunt, although the Broncos deny it got physical.

Parker was clearly in no mood to discuss the matter after training on Monday at Red Hill, other than to say there is no rift in the dressing room and no problems between any of their players.

At one stage he threatened to cut short his press conference if questions on the matter kept coming.

“I’ve got nothing to say about it because there is no issue within the group,” Parker said.

“That’s about as far as I’ll go on that one.

“We’ve got no control over what gets written about us.

“If you’re here to just talk about that, I’ll walk away now, but if you want to talk about something else we can move on.”

The Broncos held a team lunch at a Brisbane steakhouse on Friday night, following their win over St George Illawarra the evening prior, where both Hunt and McGuire were present.

“You don’t get that too often during the regular season, so it’s nice,” Parker said.

Brisbane’s attention has now shifted to this weekend’s home clash with the Newcastle, who booked their first win of the season with an 18-16 result over the Wests Tigers on Sunday.

Fullback Darius Boyd didn’t participate in Monday’s session as he was addressing some family matters, Parker said, but will be back at training later in the week and is in no doubt for Saturday’s match.
