Boyd tipped to be named Brisbane captain

Darius Boyd is poised to complete a remarkable transformation and be unveiled as Brisbane captain.

The Broncos have called a 1130 AEDT press conference for a special announcement in the Broncos boardroom on Wednesday.

Boyd, 29, had been tipped to take over from retired skipper Corey Parker after making an impressive return to Brisbane – and the NRL.

Boyd failed to finish the 2014 season with Newcastle after seeking treatment for depression.

However Boyd has emerged as a leader at fullback since relocating to Brisbane in 2015 where he began his stellar NRL career in 2006.

Boyd enjoyed career best form in 2016, making the No.1 Test and Queensland State of Origin jersey his own.

He began his career at Brisbane (2006-08), won the 2010 premiership with the Dragons (2009-11), moved to Newcastle (2012-14) before returning to Brisbane – all under coach Wayne Bennett.
