NSW back-rower Luke Lewis says there is no point in the Blues attempting to silence a raucous Suncorp Stadium crowd in next week’s State of Origin decider.
‘The Cauldron’ will be bursting at the seams as Queensland go for seven straight series wins, as well as sending prop Petero Civoniceva out a winner in his final game in maroon.
Lewis said the Blues had to embrace what they were going to get in Brisbane and not shy away from the intimidating atmosphere.
“I don’t think you can keep them out of it,” Lewis said of the crowd.
“They’ll be in the game from the first second to the last second.
“We have to get up there and be ready to go from the outset and expect to have everything thrown at us.
“We’re going to try and enjoy it and do everything with a smile on our face.”
Lewis also welcomed the contrasting relaxed mood of the Blues camp, which he claims is all due to coach Ricky Stuart.
While former coach Craig Bellamy isolated his sides during periods of his three-year reign, Stuart has brought the camp back to Sydney’s beachside suburb of Coogee, and has made team bonding a point of emphasis.
“The way he’s gone about it, you don’t want to leave camp,” Lewis said.
“There’s a great feeling among everyone involved and you want to stay involved in it.
“It makes you realise why you play the game and why you love the game.
“There’s only half a job done and we’d love to do it for Sticky for all the hard work he’s put in.”
