Blood clot sidelines Storm centre Chambers

Melbourne centre Will Chambers has been ruled out of NRL action indefinitely after being diagnosed with a rare blood clotting disorder.

Chambers was named to play in Friday night’s clash with Wests Tigers but has spent the past 48 hours in hospital after being diagnosed with ITP (Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia).

The former Queensland Reds flyer was sent to the Storm’s club doctor on Monday before he was rushed to hospital to undergo further tests.

“Will is undergoing treatment via medication to resolve the clotting and will be monitored for a safe return to football. At this stage the time frame for recovery is unknown,” Storm football manager Frank Ponissi said.

“The club’s focus is for Will’s welfare and health and we will continue to offer support to Will and his family.

“It has been a difficult and very worrying past few days for Will, however he is very positive about his recovery.”
