Bird, Roberts face anxious wait

NRL star Greg Bird and Gold Coast teammate James Roberts face an anxious wait after the Titans claimed the pair may not learn their fate when they front the club’s disciplinary committee on Thursday.

The hearing is scheduled for 2pm.

NSW State of Origin forward Bird faces a hefty fine and the prospect of losing the co-captaincy after he was issued with an infringement notice for urinating in public on Sunday night, a day after his wedding.

Young flyer Roberts will appear at the hearing after being arrested in late October following a boozy night out.

He had charges of public nuisance and obstruction dropped in a Gold Coast court on Wednesday.

However, the Titans could not confirm whether the hearing’s result would be finalised on Thursday.

“There will be no immediate media statement after the hearing until such time as the Gold Coast Titans Board has approved any recommendations of the disciplinary committee as required under clause 8.5 of the NRL Playing Contract,” a Titans statement said.

“As such, the process may not be finalised today.

“The Titans will formally announce the outcome as soon as the process has been completed.”
