Ban shoulder charge, says grieving sibling

The brother of former Sunshine Coast Falcons prop James Ackerman says calls to bring back the shoulder charge in rugby league “are very disappointing”.

The 25-year-old Ackerman died as a result of a shoulder charge gone wrong in a Queensland Cup match six weeks ago.

“Yeah, very hard to see what’s come out over the last few days, it’s been very disappointing to be honest,” Andrew Ackerman told Triple M radio.

“We’re still grieving, it’s six weeks ago.

“You’ve got experts, Channel Nine commentators saying bring it back.

“I could not believe it.”
