Axed Kearney to face NRL media

Parramatta coach Steve Kearney is expected to confirm he’s been sacked by the NRL club when he fronts the media on Friday morning.

It’s believed Kearney will guide the Eels in Saturday night’s clash with ladder leaders Melbourne at Parramatta Stadium but that will be his last game in charge.

Appointed to replace the sacked Daniel Anderson ahead of the 2011 season, Kearney has failed to get results.

Parramatta only avoided the wooden spoon in the last round of 2011 and currently sit in last place this season heading into the final seven weeks.

The decision to axe Kearney was reportedly made late on Thursday and he’s expected to confirm the news at a pre-match media conference alongside captain Nathan Hindmarsh at Parramatta Stadium at 10.30am.

Eels players claimed on Thursday night that they hadn’t been informed of the developments.

Kearney still holds his position as the New Zealand national team coach.
