Australia look to regain top RL ranking

Australia will return to the top of rugby league’s world rankings if they win the Four Nations.

The tournament begins when the Kangaroos meet Scotland on Saturday morning (AEST).

New Zealand goes into the tournament at number one despite losing their last three matches, but their lead is now tenuous.

England could also go top of the rankings with victory in the final at Anfield on November 20, depending on the result between Australia and New Zealand on Sunday week.

“We are looking more at improving performance than being number one,” said Kangaroos coach Mal Meninga.

“That will take care of itself if we get everything else right.”

Scotland, who make their first appearance in the Four Nations on Saturday, will start in ninth spot.
