Anderson backs Canterbury’s flair in GF

Melbourne’s only premiership-winning coach Chris Anderson believes the Storm’s regimented style will go against them when they meet Canterbury in Sunday’s NRL grand final.

Anderson won a grand final as a player with the Bulldogs in 1980, then as a coach in 1995 before steering the Storm to the title in 1999.

The former winger says Des Hasler’s Bulldogs have too much in their armoury with the likes of speedsters Josh Morris and Ben Barba to repel Craig Bellamy’s disciplined Storm unit.

“I think Melbourne’s predictability might hold them back a little bit on Sunday,” Anderson said.

“Realistically, Canterbury have probably got too much attack in them and too many points in them for the Storm.

“Melbourne will test them out with a very direct style but I think Canterbury will handle that and will be expecting that.”

The sides are one apiece in 2012 with the Storm winning 12-6 at home in April before the Bulldogs downed Melbourne 20-4 in Mackay in June with Morris scoring one of the tries of the season.

Barba fielded a kick deep in his own in-goal before weaving through the Storm defence and kicking ahead for Morris to score a classic try.

“Both games were tight but I feel like Canterbury have really grown as a team as the year’s gone on,” Anderson said.

“Melbourne have played two great semi-final games but until then they weren’t playing their best football.”
