Veteran Alex Glenn has replaced Darius Boyd as Brisbane Broncos skipper ahead of the 2020 NRL season.
Glenn, 31, was touted as a future leader when he ended months of speculation and re-signed for another two seasons in late 2019.
Boyd’s future as skipper was under a cloud after an underwhelming 2019 season capped by Brisbane’s embarrassing finals exit, copping a record 58-0 thumping from Parramatta.
Glenn will be unveiled as skipper at a 10am (AEDT) press conference at Red Hill but confirmed he had taken over the captaincy on a short video posted on the NRL club’s website on Friday morning.
“As a teenager I only dreamt of wearing the jersey a couple of times,” Glenn said.
“But to be in the position I am now, to represent this great club as club captain, it’s a huge honour and something I am truly grateful for.”
Former Kiwi international Glenn, a veteran of 259 NRL games, becomes the Broncos’ 10th skipper in their 32-year history.
Former Test and Queensland fullback Boyd had held the Broncos reins since 2017.
