The 49ers are one of the most intriguing teams heading into Week 7 after dismantling the Rams 24-16 last week.
Now at 3-3, San Francisco look back on track to make a run at the playoffs as they hope for more of the same on the defensive side of the ball.
The Niners held Jared Goff to under 200 yards last week and forced a crucial turnover at one point in the game, a slightly worrying sign for Cam Newton and the Patriots following last week’s ugly loss to the Broncos.
Newton threw two picks against the Denver defence, but it’s hard to know whether the mistakes were entirely on Cam, or just a result of some rust after not having played in close to two weeks.
Either way, the Patriots will need more from Julian Edelman and their offensive line against San Francisco’s pass rush, as well as some creativity on the play calling front following last week’s questionable screen calls.
The Patriots rarely lose back-to-back games, so it’s no surprise to find them as the slight favourites.
With more time to practice this week and some regularity returning to their schedule, we’re happy to give the Patriots a mulligan.
