The Bengals and the Chargers are both expected to miss the playoffs this year as both teams enter a new era at quarterback.

Andy Dalton has been replaced by No. 1 overall pick Joe Burrow, who the Bengals have announced will start Week 1.

The Chargers, meanwhile, have bid farewell to Philip Rivers in favour of Tyrod Taylor, and perhaps first round pick Justin Herbert further down the line.

Los Angeles are still stacked with talent on both sides of the ball and it no real surprise to find them favoured heavily against a Bengals team that won only two games last year.

The Chargers finished last season ranked sixth in passing yards and seventh in first downs, while the defence also held its own allowing the fifth-fewest yards through the air.

Cincinnati could prove to be a handful this year, but it’s difficult to get on board this early.

Rookie Joe Burrow has been thrown in the deep end right away, and while he does have a handful of talented receivers around him, there’s no getting around the fact the Bengals scored the third-fewest points last year.
