The San Francisco 49ers have officially turned the page and started the Trey Lance era in earnest as quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is on the outer despite leading his side to the NFC Championship game last season and the Super Bowl two seasons prior. Lance will lead the 49ers into Soldier Field to face a Chicago Bears team which will be looking to improve under rookie head coach, Matt Eberflus. The Bears showed an eye to the future by trading franchise cornerstone Khalil Mack prior to the draft, which brought their number of picks in 2022 to 11. Much is expected from second-year quarterback Justin Fields, but that improvement might hinge on the performance of an offensive line which allowed a league-high 58 sacks last season. That could be music to the ears of the 49ers, particularly standout Nick Bosa, who ranked fourth with 15.5 sacks last season and will be raring to get off to a fast start.
