Whincup chasing ton at Townsville

Holden’s Jamie Whincup remains on track for a 100th career Supercars win after qualifying for Sunday’s top-10 shootout on the streets of Townsville.

Whincup was the second-fastest driver in the 20-minute qualifying session to determine which drivers will chase pole position for the final 200km race of the Townsville 400.

Red Bull Racing teammate Shane Van Gisbergen qualified fastest with a one minute and 12.6552 second lap with Whincup (1:12.6552) and Ford Mark Winterbottom (1:12.8016) just behind him.

Holden veteran Craig Lowndes and fellow championship contenders Scott McLaughlin and Will Davison are also in the top 10.

Whincup claimed his 99th career victory on Saturday and is aiming to become just the second driver behind Lowndes to achieve a ton of race wins.

The shootout for pole will be held from 1.35pm with Sunday’s 70-lap race starting at 4.10pm.
