New Zealand youngster Shane van Gisbergen has led the way in practice for this weekend’s V8 Supercars event in Darwin.
The Ford driver, a winner at Hidden Valley Raceway last year, clocked a best lap of 1:09.5893 to top the timesheets in Friday’s fourth and final 30-minute session.
None of the championship’s leading contenders really fired a shot in the session with Holden duo Jonathon Webb (1:09.7111) and Jason Bright (1:09.8200) rounding out the top three.
Championship leader Will Davison (1:09.9623) could only manage the day’s eighth fastest time while rivals Jamie Whincup (1:10.1021) and Mark Winterbottom (1:10.0683) were 13th and 12th fastest respectively.
The action continues on Saturday with qualifying and a top 10 shootout ahead of a 120km race starting at 3.05pm (3.35 AEST).
A 200km race will be held on Sunday.
