Tagliani Texas Indy pole, Power fifth

Australian driver Will Power has qualified fifth for the IndyCar Series race at Texas Motor Speedway with Canadian Alex Tagliani claiming pole position.

Tagliani turned a lap at 215.691 mph (347.1 kph) late in Friday’s qualifying session to bump Dario Franchitti from the top starting spot.

Franchitti went 215.646 mph (347.03 kph) to qualify second.

Graham Rahal of the US qualified third and Scott Dixon of New Zealand was fourth to give Honda the top four qualifying spots for Saturday’s race.

Series points leader Power was the highest qualified Chevrolet driver.

The drivers were split headed into Friday’s final practice session over the downforce limits set by IndyCar.

IndyCar decreased the downforce to try to break up the pack racing, and half the drivers felt it made the cars too hard to drive.
