Stroll positive to COVID-19 after Eifel GP

Racing Point Formula One driver Lance Stroll revealed that he had tested positive for coronavirus after the Eifel Grand Prix in Germany on October 11.

The Canadian broke the news on social media.

He missed the race at Nuerburgring and was replaced by Nico Huelkenberg from qualifying onwards.

“I just want to let everyone know that I recently tested positive for COVID-19 after the Eifel GP weekend,” he wrote on Twitter.

“I am feeling 100 per cent and have since tested negative.”

Stroll explained he arrived at the Nuerburgring after testing negative in regular pre-race tests.

But on Saturday morning (October 10) he woke up with an upset stomach.

“I followed the (ruling body) FIA protocol and self-isolated in my motorhome and did not re-enter the paddock,” Stroll said.

“I wasn’t fit to race so I flew home early Sunday morning.”

The driver took a coronavirus test on Sunday evening as he still felt sick and the results came back positive on the next day.

He then self-isolated at home for 10 days.

“I was tested again on Monday this week and my results were negative. I feel in great shape and I can’t wait to be back with the team and race in Portugal.”

The Formula One season goes on with the Portuguese Grand Prix in Portimao on October 25.
