Stoner’s V8 experiment set for final fling

Casey Stoner’s V8s experiment comes to an end in Sydney this weekend – and the two-time MotoGP champion couldn’t be happier.

The 28-year-old on Friday conceded 2013 didn’t pan out the way he had hoped after switching from two wheels to four in the V8 Supercars’ second-tier series.

Driving a Holden for Red Bull Racing Australia, Stoner has only managed two top-10 finishes in 16 races this season. His average finish is 19th.

But his poor results on track haven’t been the only things bugging the retired two-wheel ace, who dotted his year with several test rides in Japan for his former MotoGP team Honda.

“It’s been too busy. We expected to come here and enjoy racing a little bit – seven (rounds), a few tests and then have the rest of the year off,” Stoner said at Sydney Olympic Park on Friday.

“But it’s been nowhere near that fairytale.

“People didn’t want me to disappear so they made sure I stayed around and got my face everywhere.”

Stoner is ruing the fact he’s had very little spare time to spend with wife Adriana and their daughter Alessandra since retiring from MotoGP last year.

He said he wanted to have a solid six months off before opening the next chapter in his career.

“We’re definitely going to take time off next year and actually recuperate basically from all the years of work we’ve had these past ones. Then after that, we’ll make some plans for the future.

“I don’t know if I’ll come back into motor racing or not. There’s a few business opportunities that I’ve been looking at the last few years and they’re possibilities.

“We’re thinking about them a little bit at the moment but we’ve decided to just step away from those things, try and just enjoy our lives for four to six months and then start thinking about the future.”

Stoner will compete in two more races in the Dunlop Series on Saturday and Sunday.
