Holden’s Shane van Gisbergen has pipped Supercars title rival Scott McLaughlin in the opening 95-lap race of the season finale, the Newcastle 500.

Van Gisbergen cut Ford gun McLaughlin’s championship lead to just two points ahead of Sunday’s final 95-lap race with the win while Holden’s David Reynolds finished third.

Pole sitter van Gisbergen overtook McLaughlin who was battling fuel dramas to take the lead with just two turns left of the opening 250km race.
