Ricciardo hasn’t put a wheel wrong: Webber

Daniel Ricciardo hasn’t put a wheel wrong so far this Formula One season, according to the man he replaced at Red Bull and fellow Australian Mark Webber.

Ricciardo on Monday (AEST) grabbed his first grand prix win in Canada, ending Mercedes’ run of six straight victories.

Webber, who this weekend returns to Le Mans to compete in his first 24-hour race there since 1999, watched the start of the GP in Montreal and admitted “it wasn’t looking that exciting”.

“But then I saw the Mercs have problems,” he told NBC Sports’ MotorSportsTalk program.

“For Daniel to get his first win was incredible for him.

“He hasn’t put a wheel wrong all year so far.

“There’s been testing regulations, wet qualifyings, and all sorts of stuff that’s been thrown at him. But for him to notch up his first win is a big step for him.”

Ricciardo’s maiden win marked the fifth successive race in which he’d beaten teammate and four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel.

He previously notched up two fourth-placings and back-to-back podiums to sit third on the championship standings, behind Mercedes’ runaway leaders Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton.
