Ricciardo, Doohan sign for Race of Champs

Formula One star Daniel Ricciardo will make his Race of Champions debut at this year’s all-star event in London.

The Red Bull driver will represent Team Australia alongside compatriot and motorcycle legend Mick Doohan at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on November 20-21.

“It’s an honour to be invited to the Race of Champions and I’m really looking forward to racing inside the tight confines of London’s former Olympic Stadium,” Ricciardo said.

“It’s also very special to be able to represent my country, especially as teammate to someone like Mick Doohan.

“The word `legend’ is overused in sport but Mick is one of the few who genuinely deserve it.

“Now we need as many Europe-based Aussies as possible to come to London to cheer us on, then let’s see what we can do.”

Six-time V8 Supercars champion Jamie Whincup has previously partnered Doohan, in Bangkok in 2012 and Barbados last year.

Among the list of confirmed competitors for 2015 is Ricciardo’s former Red Bull teammate Sebastian Vettel, nine-time 24 Hours of Le Mans winner Tom Kristensen, former World Rally Champion Petter Solberg and retired F1 driver David Coulthard.
