Remy Gardner scores fulltime ride in Moto2

The rise of Remy Gardner – son of former motorcycle world champion Wayne – continues, with the teenager signing a fulltime deal to contest the Moto2 title next year.

The 18-year-old will ride for French-based Tech 3 Racing in 2017, alongside Spaniard Xavi Vierge.

Gardner made his debut in the intermediate class earlier this year as a replacement for Alessandro Tonnucci at the Catalan Grand Prix.

He finished 15th to score his first championship point aboard Tasca Racing’s Kalex.

He has raced in five grands prix since, including a career-best 12th at the German GP, and will stay with the team until the end of the season.

Gardner said he can’t wait for next season.

“From an outsiders perspective, it looks like the team is very structured and in all honesty, I couldn’t be any happier about joining Tech3,” he said in a statement.

Team manager Herve Poncharal is a long-time friend of Wayne Gardner and predicts great things from the rising teenage star.

“I think he is one of the hottest young talents that is coming through the ranks and he has a bright future ahead of him,” he said.

“Hopefully, we can help him grow and I am sure we can achieve success together.”
