A wet final practice session has produced a query over Formula One qualifying for Sunday’s Australian Grand Prix.
Drivers began their warm-up at Albert Park in dry and sunny conditions but were soon sent scurrying to the pits as showers began to fall.
Rain tyres were bolted on and the running continued but, after an hour, there was little indication of where the teams stood leading into the one-hour session for grid spots.
Before the rain, Lotus driver Romain Grosjean set the fastest time with a dry lap of 1m26.929s.
He was followed by the Ferraris of Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa while the pacesetters from Friday’s practice were left to continue in slippery conditions.
Sebastian Vettel, who dominated the running on the first day, was in 12th place before his Red Bull slowed to a stop with hydraulic problems.
Teammate Mark Webber was 13th while Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg – third on Friday – could manage only 11th.
Australian Torro Rosso driver Daniel Ricciardo managed sixth, one spot ahead of his French teammate Jean-Eric Vergne.
