Prosecutors say they will end Bernie Ecclestone’s bribery trial in exchange for a $US100 million ($A108.2 million) payment from Formula One’s commercial chief.
The Munich state court has yet to decide whether to approve the deal, with a decision expected later on Tuesday.
Ecclestone has been been on trial since April on charges of bribery and incitement to breach of trust. The charges involve a $US44 million ($A47.6 million) payment to banker Gerhard Gribkowsky, who is serving an eight-and-a-half year sentence for taking the money.
The 83-year-old Ecclestone denies wrongdoing and says Gribkowsky blackmailed him.
Ecclestone’s lawyers last week called for proceedings to be closed, citing lack of evidence that he was criminally responsible.
Prosecutor Christian Weiss said they would accept a deal in which Ecclestone would pay the $100 million, news agency dpa reported.
