V8 Supercars team Ford Performance Racing will operate as normal despite owners Prodrive losing road-car arm Ford Performance Vehicles to the manufacturer.
Ford will assume full control of Ford Performance Vehicles (FPV) from Prodrive at the end of the year following recent poor sales, resulting in the redundancy of 32 FPV workers.
But in a short statement, Ford Performance Racing’s (FPR) team principal Tim Edwards said the news won’t affect the V8s team which, despite being owned by Prodrive, is run separate to FPV.
“The race team’s future is secure and we are in a very healthy position,” Edwards said.
“We are a separate business and all our plans for 2013 and beyond remain.”
FPR currently run three vehicles in the V8 Supercars championship, title contenders Mark Winterbottom and Will Davison operating the factory-backed team’s flagship cars while David Reynolds drives a third vehicle under the management of Rod Nash Racing.
Prodrive is reportedly in talks with Ford to extend its deal to operate the manufacturer’s factory team in the V8 Supercars championship, which currently runs out at the end of 2013.
“Ford’s ownership will further strengthen our ties with them as we are intrinsically linked to the brand’s performance credentials,” Edwards said.
“Obviously as the specific details of the new structure evolve we will discuss with Ford the nature of our relationship with the FPV brand.
“However, our immediate focus is on the enduros and the development of our Car of the Future program.”
