MotoGP rider Spies has shoulder surgery

Yamaha rider Ben Spies has undergone surgery in the United States to repair torn ligaments in his right shoulder following a crash in last week’s Malaysian Grand Prix, the team said on Thursday.

Although Spies will make a full recovery, he will need to remain in a sling for up to 10-12 weeks.

The decision on a replacement rider for the final round of the world championship at Valencia on November 11 will be clarified by Yamaha following the Phillip Island race in Australia this weekend.
