Ford driver Chaz Mostert has topped the timesheets at Friday’s practice for this weekend’s Supercars event at Queensland Raceway.

Mostert clocked a practice lap record at Ipswich with a one minute and 08.9960 second fastest lap to finish ahead of Ford’s Fabian Coulthard and Holden’s Shane Van Gisbergen on the timesheets.

Coulthard, who relinquished the championship lead to teammate Scott McLaughlin in the previous event at Townsville, clocked a 1:09.1059.

Defending series champion Van Gisbergen pounced late in the 45-minute session to nab third position on the timesheets with a 1:09.2165.

Mostert’s teammate Mark Winterbottom finished sixth-fastest ahead of Holden veteran Craig Lowndes.

McLaughlin, who leads the championship by a mere six points from Jamie Whincup, could only post the ninth-fastest time in Friday’s final practice.

Whincup was even less impressive, coming 20th in the session.

The Ipswich SuperSprint begins with a 120km race from 4.15pm on Saturday before a 200km race on Sunday wraps up the event.
