Mostert seals first V8 pole

Ford’s Chaz Mostert has secured the first pole position of his V8 Supercars career in Perth.

The Bathurst 1000 champion, a race winner at Barbagallo Raceway last year, secured P1 for Saturday’s first 25-lap race at the 2.411km circuit.

Mostert secured pole with a fastest lap of 57.0403 seconds, with Prodrive Racing Australia teammate Mark Winterbottom qualifying in second with a 57.1006 lap.

Holden’s Craig Lowndes, aiming to become the first man to claim 100 V8 Supercar race wins this weekend, qualified third.

His teammate and championship leader Jamie Whincup has plenty of work to do after only managing to qualify in a lowly 21st position.

Saturday’s first race is set to start at 1.15pm AWST.

Qualifying for the second race will get underway at 11.05am AWST.
