McLaughlin fastest in final V8 practice

Holden driver Scott McLaughlin has set the fastest time in the last practice session for this weekend’s V8 Supercars round in Perth.

The 19-year-old New Zealander clocked a lap time of 55.62sec on Saturday morning to outpace Jason Bright and McLaughlin’s Fujitsu Racing teammate, Frenchman Alex Premat.

It was the final 30-minute practice session following three runs on Friday when Ford’s championship leader Will Davison set the quickest time.

Davison was sixth best around the Barbagallo circuit in perfect conditions on Saturday while his Ford Performance Racing teammate Mark Winterbottom was fourth on the timesheets.

The surprise of the session was the pace of Ford driver Chaz Mostert in fifth on debut in the V8 Supercars category.

Holden’s defending series champion Jamie Whincup was 15th fastest.

Qualifying for race 10 of the championship starts at 12.05pm local time (2.05pm AEST) to decide grid positions for the 60/60 Super Sprint.

The 120km battle will include a 15-minute “halftime break” and a rolling double-file start for the second part of the race.
