Hamilton claims Aussie GP pole position

Four-time world champion Lewis Hamilton has grabbed pole position for Sunday’s Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne.

The Briton clocked a lap record one minute, 21.16 seconds to nab top spot on the grid ahead of Ferrari duo Kimi Raikkonen and four time world champion Sebastian Vettel.

Australia’s Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull) was fifth fastest but will start from eighth in the Formula One season opener after copping a three place grid penalty in Friday’s second practice.
