Ford teammates Mark Winterbottom and Will Davison have qualified first and second fastest for Saturday’s V8 Supercar top 10 shootout in Darwin.
Winterbottom, who is battling a virus, clocked a 1:08.5567 fastest lap in the 20-minute qualifying run at the Hidden Valley Raceway to pip his stablemate and championship rival.
Standings leader Davison posted a 1:08.6012 with fellow Ford Performance Racing driver David Reynolds edging out defending champion Jamie Whincup to qualify third fastest for the shootout, which will determine pole position for Saturday afternoon’s 42-lap race.
Whincup’s teammate, Holden veteran Craig Lowndes, had a disappointing morning and will start from the lowly position of 20th just behind former champion James Courtney who could only qualify 19th.
The shootout begins at 12.55pm (1325 AEST).
