Erebus sign ex-F1 champ for China races

Australian team Erebus Motorsport has snared two-time Formula One world champion Mika Hakkinen to race for them in a GT Asia race in China.

Hakkinen, a 20-time grands prix victor, will race Erebus’s Bathurst 12-hour endurance race-winning Mercedes AMG Gullwing in the October 11-13 event at Zhuhai in China.

Erebus is owned by Westfield heiress Betty Klimenko and races several Mercedes cars in various championships, including in this year’s V8 Supercars series.

Hakkinen will drive one of two Erebus-backed AMG Gullwings at the race before the team heads to the 60th Macau Grand Prix in November to compete in a support race.
