Ford’s Will Davison has secured pole position by the narrowest of margins for Sunday’s Bathurst 1000 V8 Supercars endurance race.
Davison clocked a two minutes and 08.0693 seconds lap around the Mount Panorama circuit to just edge Holden’s Jamie Whincup for his first Bathurst pole position.
Whincup, who was a mere two 10/1000ths of a second ahead of Davison’s time after two thirds of his lap, clocked a 2:08.1008 and will start second on the grid for the 1000km race.
Young New Zealander Shane Van Gisbergen will start third with Mark Winterbottom in fourth position for an all-Ford second row.
Defending champion Garth Tander has qualified sixth fastest while race favourite Craig Lowndes could only manage a disappointing 2:09.0997 and will start from ninth.
Sunday’s race gets underway at 10.35am AEDT.
