Daniel Ricciardo wins Chinese F1 GP

Daniel Ricciardo has won the Chinese Grand Prix for his sixth Formula One race victory and first since Azerbaijan last year.

The Australian Red Bull driver took the chequered flag in Shanghai on Sunday as the winning run of Sebastian Vettel ended and world champion Lewis Hamilton missed the podium as well.

Ricciardo and teammate Max Verstappen pitted for fresh tyres under the safety car while Ferrari with Vettel and Mercedes – with then race leader Valtteri Bottas and Hamilton – were not ideally positioned to follow suit.

The fresher tyres made the difference as Ricciardo stormed to victory from sixth at the restart, with Bottas second and fellow Finn Kimi Raikkonen of Ferrari third.

Hamilton was fourth while Vettel, who had won the first two season races in Australia and Bahrain, had to settle for eighth after being hit by Verstappen who received a 10-second penalty for the offence.
