Briscoe undergoes surgery on injured wrist

Australian IndyCar driver Ryan Briscoe has undergone surgery to his broken right wrist in the United States.

A small plate and screws have been fitted into the fracture on Briscoe’s distal radius bone and the Panther Racing driver will be evaluated throughout the week.

A carbon fibre splint is likely to be fitted and it’s unclear whether Briscoe will be available for the next IndyCar series race on August 4.

Briscoe broke his wrist following contact with competitors Charlie Kimball and Justin Wilson in the first of two races in Toronto last weekend.

“Everybody at the hospital, and all of the IndyCar medical staff, have done a great job taking good care of me and I can’t thank them enough,” Briscoe said.

“I’m feeling good and can’t wait to get back behind the wheel.”
