Ryan Briscoe faces a hectic weekend as he gets set to compete in two separate motorsport events in the United States.
Briscoe will juggle his obligations for Panther Racing at the Pocono 400 IndyCar series event this weekend along with an American Le Mans Series (ALMS) race at Lime Rock Park.
The clash means the Australian will forgo Saturday’s qualifying for the IndyCar event, therefore starting from the back, to compete in the ALMS race.
“It’s great that Panther is giving me the opportunity to race at Pocono even though I won’t be here Saturday for practice and qualifying,” said Briscoe, who is still aiming for a full-time IndyCar drive after being released by Penske Racing at the end of last season.
“Fortunately, I will be able to prepare the car for the race and it was a big bonus having the test day last week … to get as much track time as possible.”
Sunday’s (Monday AM AEST) race will be Briscoe’s fourth this year for the No.4 Panther Racing Chevrolet and will be the team’s first start at Pocono’s “Tricky Triangle” – a unique tri-oval where Indy last raced in 1989.
“Pocono’s a big track and it’s a long 400-mile race, so we feel plenty confident even having to start in the back,” Briscoe said.
“With all the track time we’ll have on Thursday, we can get to the front.”
