Briscoe gets back behind IndyCar wheel

Australian driver Ryan Briscoe made a successful return from a broken wrist to test his IndyCar at a Californian race-track on Tuesday.

Briscoe hasn’t jumped behind the wheel since fracturing his wrist in the opening race of the Indy race in Toronto in mid-July.

He was one of several drivers who took part in the test day at the Sonoma Raceway ahead of the Grand Prix of Sonoma later this month.

Briscoe is set to return to competition at the August 25 race and is the defending champion at Sonoma after winning there last year.

“The test went really well today and my wrist held up great,” Briscoe said on Twitter.

“@RyanHunterReay kicked our butts, but we’ll come back stronger next week!”

Including last year’s win, Briscoe has finished in the top five in each of his past five visits to Sonoma while fellow Australian Will Power has won the past three pole positions at the track.
