Bright, Whincup on pole for Perth V8 races

Holden pair Jason Bright and Jamie Whincup have claimed pole positions for Sunday’s two V8 Supercars races in Perth.

Bright clocked a lap time of 55.29sec around Barbagallo Raceway in the first qualifying session to book a spot at the front of the grid for the opening 100km race.

The 40-year-old Brad Jones Racing driver was followed by Ford’s Will Davison and record-breaking Craig Lowndes.

In race 10 of the championship on Saturday, Lowndes took his 91st chequered flag to go past Mark Skaife’s milestone of most V8 Supercars career wins.

In qualifying for the second 42-lap race of the day, Lowndes was bumped into second in the dying stages by his Red Bull Racing teammate Whincup, who logged a best time of 55.24sec.

Championship leader Whincup’s bitter rival, Ford’s Mark Winterbottom, was third quickest.

The first race starts at 12.05pm local time (2.05pm AEST) with a relatively small gap until the third and final battle of the weekend at 2.25pm local time (4.25pm AEST).
